“I am Ashish Arora, an international student at Sheridan College, currently pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Computer Systems Technology – Information Systems Engineering. My journey at Sheridan has been shaped by my passion for technology, leadership, and community engagement. I have been actively involved in the Sheridan community through multiple roles. As a Sheridan Student Ambassador, I lead campus tours, assist with recruitment events, and support new students in their transition to college life. Through this role, I have developed strong communication and leadership skills while fostering a welcoming environment for students. Additionally, I have volunteered as a New Student Orientation Volunteer, helping incoming students navigate their first days at Sheridan. I have also contributed to sustainability initiatives by participating in the Mission Zero Free Pop-Up Shop, promoting environmental consciousness within our college. Beyond my community involvement, I am deeply passionate about technology and innovation. My academic journey has allowed me to work on projects related to software development, cybersecurity, and machine learning. I continuously seek opportunities to apply my technical skills in ways that benefit the Sheridan community. By joining the Board of Directors, I aim to advocate for students, enhance student engagement, and contribute to shaping a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.”

“ As an international student at Sheridan College, I have experienced firsthand the multifaceted financial challenges that many students face daily, from rising tuition fees and soaring living expenses to the limited work opportunities available for those of us studying far from home. These challenges not only impact my academic journey but also resonate deeply with the broader student community. Currently, as I apply for the Sheridan Student Union International Bursary, I have gained invaluable insights into how critical financial support is in alleviating the overwhelming pressures that come with managing both educational costs and living expenses. I have observed that many students, particularly those from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, are either unaware of the scholarships, bursaries, and awards available or are discouraged by complex application processes that hinder their ability to secure much-needed aid. This experience fuels my passion for advocating for expanded financial aid programs that not only increase the number of scholarships and bursaries but also ensure that information about these resources is communicated clearly and accessibly to every student. Simplifying the application process will remove unnecessary barriers and empower more students to apply for and benefit from financial support. Furthermore, I am committed to promoting comprehensive financial literacy initiatives that equip students with essential skills in budgeting, debt management, and making informed financial decisions. These programs are critical, as they help students navigate their financial challenges with confidence and clarity, reducing the anxiety associated with managing money during their academic journey. In addition to these initiatives, I recognize the urgent need for robust emergency financial assistance programs that provide immediate relief during unexpected crises, such as sudden job loss, medical emergencies, or family hardships. This ensures that no student is forced to compromise their education due to unforeseen financial setbacks. My experiences as a Sheridan Student Ambassador have allowed me to interact with students from diverse backgrounds, listen to their concerns, and assist them in navigating the complexities of college life. These interactions have given me a clear perspective on the pressing need for accessible financial support. I have witnessed how financial insecurity can distract from academic focus and overall well-being, and I firmly believe that addressing these issues will help create an environment where every student can thrive.”
