Program: Software Development and Network Engineering

“My name is Gulsher Cheema and I'm a second-year SDNE student at Davis! As an integral part of the Sheridan community, I've actively engaged in numerous avenues of involvement. Within clubs such as the Sheridan Podcast and Enactus, I've honed leadership skills and fostered connections. This journey extended to serving on the board of the Sheridan Student Union, where I contributed to shaping student experiences and initiatives.

Moreover, my participation in the Sheridan Advisory Council allowed me to lend a student perspective to important college decisions, ensuring that student voices were heard and considered. Additionally, through the Leadership Bridge Program, I had the opportunity to mentor a faculty member, fostering collaboration and mutual growth within our community.

Beyond formal roles, I've eagerly pursued volunteer opportunities, further deepening my commitment to service and community engagement. In all these endeavors, my goal has been to enhance the Sheridan experience and contribute positively to our vibrant community.

What are some of the student issues that you would like to bring to the Board table?

✔ Student Housing Resources

✔ Financial Support: Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards

✔ Cultural Representation & Inclusion

Write about one of the current student issues you selected above. share why advocating for this issue is important to you:

“As a student who has navigated the challenges of finding suitable and affordable housing firsthand, advocating for better student housing resources is a cause close to my heart. I've seen friends struggle with long commutes, high rent prices, and unsafe living conditions, all of which can take a toll on their well-being and academic success.

Improving student housing isn't just about convenience; it's about ensuring every student has a fair chance to thrive. Affordable, accessible housing near campus means less stress, more time for studying, and a better overall college experience. It's also about creating a sense of community and belonging, where students feel safe and supported in their living arrangements. By pushing for more affordable options, better housing quality, and stronger tenant rights, we can make a real difference in students' lives. I believe in creating a future where housing isn't a barrier to education, but rather a foundation for success. That's why I'm passionate about advocating for better student housing resources, and I hope to have your support in making this vision a reality.
