HMC Candidate
Program: Business-Finance(PBUFI)
“My name's Anushka Grover and this is my first semester at Sheridan College. I am studying Business- Finance (PBUFI) and am currently the Student Ambassador of the HMC Campus. It has been two months since I got this role and I am willing to move forward with leadership roles as that's something I like to do. I am also a member of Sheridan Student EDGE and have participated in Idea Validation Lab 1 where I with my teammate pitched a business idea and got a constructive feedback on how to build our business plan. Apart from that, I also did 1 CFEE session along with training where I instructed the Sheridan Students on topics of Finance last week. I am also a member of the Human Resource Student Association Club at Sheridan Mississauga Campus. Apart from these roles, I have also participated in various events and going to be in one of thee focus groups by Sheridan College next week.”
What are some of the student issues that you would like to bring to the Board table?
✔ Health and Wellness
✔ Financial Support: Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards
✔ Sexual Health and Awareness on Campus
Write about one of the current student issues you selected above. share why advocating for this issue is important to you:
“I want to talk about Health and Wellness specifically Mental Health. That's a topic that has seen a lot of improvements over the past couple of years but even after that, it still is a topic that many people need to be fully invested in. You never know what the person beside you could be feeling at the very moment. They could be smiling but there are a lot of things going on in a person's mind. In fact, I believe more focus should be there on the Health and Wellness Issue in terms of International Students and the reason behind it is that it takes a lot of courage to move into another country when you are still figuring out your life and yourself. I have seen many people of young age making bad decisions after coming to another country because of their poor mental health and that is why there needs to be more engagement in the issue of Health and Wellness such as pop-up events where students can write their thoughts on a sheet of paper anonymously and that can create a sense of relief when that weight is taken off their shoulder.
I am always trying to check up on my friends about how their day is and what they might be thinking by themself which might be troubling them, but most people avoid talking about mental health and regard their behaviour as 'bad mood' which is wrong at many levels. I believe education with the terms should also be provided regularly where not only the students learn about these but can also learn about themselves more deeply.”
