“I am passionate about fostering an inclusive and equitable Sheridan community where every student feels valued and empowered. As a dedicated volunteer with the Sikh Students Association for the past six months, I have actively advocated for students and helped organize community meals and multicultural events to unite people and promote oneness. Beyond campus, I have been volunteering with Khalsa Aid for the past seven months, assisting those in need across Ontario. This experience has strengthened my commitment to equity, compassion, and service—values I bring into my contributions at Sheridan. I also engage in key Sheridan and SSU events that promote advocacy and inclusivity. From marching in Take Back The Night for safer spaces to celebrating diversity at Diwali Party, Desi Jam, I strive to uplift and unite students. Additionally, I attended the Annual General Meeting, a vital platform where students shape SSU’s future, ensuring their voices are heard in key decisions. My leadership, dedication, and passion for student empowerment drive me to create meaningful change. As a Board of Directors member, I will continue advocating for a more inclusive, vibrant, and supportive Sheridan community where every student is heard and celebrated.”

Write about one of the current student issues you selected above. share why advocating for this issue is important to you:

“Advocating for Cultural Representation and Inclusion is deeply important to me because it ensures every student feels valued, respected, and empowered to thrive. Growing up, I experienced firsthand the impact of being part of a diverse, supportive community, which shaped my belief that inclusion is essential for fostering personal growth, mutual understanding, and social cohesion. At Sheridan, I have seen how cultural representation and inclusion positively affect student well-being, success, and unity. As our community becomes more diverse, it’s critical to create spaces where all students feel heard and appreciated, regardless of their background. When students see their culture, identity, and experiences represented in events, discussions, and leadership roles, it strengthens their sense of belonging and motivates them to engage more fully in academic and extracurricular activities. Through my involvement with the Sikh Students Association, Khalsa Aid, and other initiatives, I’ve been actively advocating for underrepresented groups and working to create opportunities for diverse students to connect, learn, and grow. Whether it’s organizing multicultural events, participating in advocacy efforts, or helping create safer spaces, I’ve witnessed the positive effects of these actions in building a more inclusive, supportive environment for everyone at Sheridan. In addition, I’ve had the privilege of being part of key SSU events such as Take Back the Night, Diwali Party, and Desi Jam, which celebrate the richness of our diverse backgrounds. These events are not just about cultural appreciation but also about creating connections, fostering empathy, and reinforcing the importance of inclusivity. As a member of the Board of Directors, I will continue advocating for cultural representation by ensuring that all student voices are heard and represented in decision-making processes. It’s crucial that every student, regardless of their background, feels empowered to share their ideas, concerns, and experiences. By prioritizing cultural representation and inclusion, we can create a stronger, more unified Sheridan community where every student has the opportunity to succeed and feel valued. This is the kind of community I am committed to building.”
