“My name is Naman, and I am currently a student at Sheridan College. Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of volunteering and working on campus in various capacities, which has allowed me to build strong connections within the Sheridan community. Since January 2024, I’ve been a Student Ambassador, helping new and prospective students navigate campus life and providing them with the information they need to succeed. In addition, I’ve worked as a Student Associate and Learn Well Facilitator since September 2024, where I’ve had the opportunity to assist fellow students with their academic challenges and promote resources that foster student success. Beyond my roles on campus, I also volunteer with BIGS on Campus, mentoring children and helping them develop important life skills. This experience has not only allowed me to give back to the community but also developed my leadership, communication, and mentoring skills. Through my involvement in these diverse roles, I’ve gained a deep understanding of student needs and concerns. I am passionate about creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all students, and I am eager to contribute to the Sheridan community in a meaningful way as a member of the Board of Directors.”

What are some of the student issues that you would like to bring to the Board table?

Environment & Sustainability

✔ Cultural Representation and Inclusion

✔ Financial Support: Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards

Write about one of the current student issues you selected above. share why advocating for this issue is important to you:

“Advocating for Environment & Sustainability is crucial to me because I believe it is our collective responsibility to protect the planet and ensure a sustainable future. As a student at Sheridan, I have become increasingly aware of the environmental challenges we face, and I am motivated to help create positive change within our campus community. One area I am passionate about is waste management. Many students are unaware of the recycling and composting systems available, leading to unnecessary waste. I would advocate for better education around these systems and ensure they are easily accessible, helping reduce landfill waste. Additionally, supporting the use of eco-friendly materials on campus, such as biodegradable alternatives to plastics, would contribute to a greener environment. Sustainable transportation is another key focus. Many students rely on cars, which increases our campus’s carbon footprint. I would encourage carpooling and public transportation wherever feasible, making sustainable options more accessible and easier for students to adopt. Beyond reducing environmental harm, I believe in fostering a culture of sustainability. I envision campaigns and workshops to engage students in sustainable practices both on and off-campus, empowering them to take ownership of their role in environmental protection. These efforts would help build a more responsible and environmentally-conscious community. Additionally, I propose hosting an event on campus where various companies and organizations focused on climate change and sustainability can come together to create a marketplace-style event. This would provide students with the opportunity to learn about steps they can take in their personal lives to address climate change. It could also serve as an introduction to sustainable products, services, and practices that students may not have otherwise encountered. Sheridan has the potential to lead by example, not just by reducing its ecological impact but by shaping students into eco-conscious individuals who carry these values into their future careers. I’m excited to contribute to making Sheridan a model of sustainability and to advocate for policies and initiatives that promote a greener, healthier campus for all.”
