“Feel free to refer to me by my last name, 'Bains,' but formally, my legal name is Haquikat Bains. Currently, I am enrolled in the Bachelor of Information Sciences (Cyber Security) – PBAIS program, in my first-year and first semester at the Trafalgar Campus. During the previous semester, Fall 2023, I pursued an Honours Bachelor of Computer Science - PBCPNN, achieving a commendable 3.87 GPA.

In addition to my academic pursuits, I am actively involved in various college clubs and dedicated my time to volunteer work in Mission Zero during the last semester and continue to do so this semester. I am committed to contributing positively to our college community and ensuring a fulfilling academic experience for all students.”

What are some of the student issues that you would like to bring to the Board table?

Transportation
Cultural Representation & Inclusion

Write about one of the current student issues you selected above. share why advocating for this issue is important to you:

“I want to create a campus community garden. This initiative could involve converting unused green spaces into productive gardens where students can grow their own fruits, vegetables, and herbs. The garden could serve as a sustainable source of fresh produce for students, promote healthy eating habits, and provide opportunities for hands-on learning about gardening and environmental stewardship. Additionally, it could foster a sense of community among students, faculty, and staff who come together to tend to the garden and share in the harvest.

Establish a mentorship program connecting upperclassmen with incoming freshmen or transfer students. This program could provide valuable guidance and support to new students as they navigate college life, academics, and extracurricular activities. Mentors could offer advice, share experiences, and help newcomers integrate into the campus community more smoothly. Additionally, the program could facilitate networking opportunities and foster meaningful relationships between students across different academic disciplines and backgrounds.

In our college community, it's imperative that every student has equal access to resources and opportunities.”
