Program: Computer Programming Diploma
“My name is Moinuddin and I'm a first-year Computer Programming Diploma student at Davis! I currently have an on-campus student clerical job which I enjoy. At the job, I usually manage events, interact with students and make event plans. I learn skills such as programming through my course's curriculum but learn the invaluable soft skills like communication, time management and confidence from my on-campus job and I am highly satisfied with it.”
What are some of the student issues that you would like to bring to the Board table?
✔ Student Housing Resources
✔ Health and Wellness
Write about one of the current student issues you selected above. share why advocating for this issue is important to you:
“Having a nice place to stay is super important for students like us! Particularly during rising housing prices and lack of appropriate accommodation options. Though our college does provide off-campus housing options and I even have one of my friends living there, while the experience is satisfactory the service can still be improved. The benefits of the service are that the internet, water and electricity are provided in the rent. The ways I believe it can be improved is by collaborating with the college in this initiative and building a monthly feedback system where students can share their experiences and problems(if they face any) and the college can take steps to improve the accommodations accordingly.
As for health and wellness, our college does provide guard.me insurance which is really appreciated. Though the issue I want to address is student's improper diet and deteriorating mental health. We do provide counselling services though a majority of students don't opt for it. We should host events that address these aspects so that students don't consider it a taboo. Moreover, the diet of students, particularly international students, is not anywhere close to a desired healthy diet. We should again host events to promote having a healthy diet. Another thing that we can do is replacing cokes in events by water or apple juice or any other healthy alternative. We can also switch pizzas and pastas with salads and fruits. These steps might not look significant though when combined can improve students health significantly.”
