TRC Candidate

Program: Computer Systems Technology - Information Systems Engineering

“My name is Yagna Patel, and I am a student at Sheridan College's TRC campus. I am currently studying Computer Systems Technology - Information Systems Technology. While I am relatively new to direct engagement in the Sheridan community, I've always been passionate about exploring what Sheridan has to offer.

My journey with the Sheridan Student Union (SSU) began when I attended my first event featuring Loud Luxury, and it was an amazing experience. From that moment on, I found myself drawn to attending more SSU events, each one leaving me thoroughly impressed with the organization's ability to create memorable and enjoyable experiences for students.

In addition to my fascination with SSU events, I am also eager to get more involved in campus activities. While I am not currently involved in any specific clubs or organizations, my experiences with SSU events have inspired me to seek out opportunities to contribute to the vibrant campus community. I am excited about the potential to become more actively engaged with SSU and other aspects of the Sheridan community. I look forward to exploring new opportunities for involvement and making meaningful contributions to the campus environment.

Write about one of the current student issues you selected above. share why advocating for this issue is important to you:

“Advocating for financial support initiatives at Sheridan College encompasses more than traditional scholarships and bursaries. By introducing competitive academic competitions with monetary prizes, we can offer students both academic and financial benefits. These competitions not only recognize academic excellence but also provide tangible financial support that can alleviate the financial burdens students face.

Moreover, as the competition for co-op placements intensifies, there's an opportunity for SSU to step in and provide assistance. By collaborating with industry partners, SSU can help facilitate co-op placements for students, offering valuable opportunities for professional growth and financial stability. Additionally, SSU can organize networking events and workshops to help students build meaningful connections within their fields of study, further enhancing their chances of securing co-op placements and future employment opportunities.

In essence, advocating for financial support through competitive academic competitions and co-op assistance initiatives is about empowering students both academically and financially. By providing monetary rewards for academic achievements and practical support for co-op placements, SSU can make a significant impact on students' educational and professional journeys, ultimately contributing to their overall success and well-being.”
