“ I'm Stanzin Yutung, and I'm in my second semester pursuing a postgraduate diploma in Advertising and Marketing Communications at HMC. I currently serve as a Peer Mentor and a social media ambassador for PSB, enjoying every moment of my experience within the Sheridan community. The bruins community has offered me numerous opportunities I previously lacked, and as an international student, I feel it's crucial to engage in the Board of Directors, aiming to improve the student life at HMC significantly. I am committed to leveraging all my abilities and experience to represent my fellow bruins and surpass the experience of every student and staff members at Sheridan.“
What are some of the student issues that you would like to bring to the Board table?

Write about one of the current student issues you selected above. share why advocating for this issue is important to you:
“As an international student myself, I believe it is of the utmost importance for international students to have accommodation near the college campus for the following reasons:
Firstly, it provides a much-needed sense of community for international students. The initial two months in Canada were the toughest for me, as I was alone, far from my family, and distant from the Sheridan family as well. Residing near HMC would have strengthened my sense of community with other students. Therefore, I would never wish for any international student to endure similar experiences, which might impact their mental well-being or add extra stress on top of academic pressures and obligations.
Secondly, living near my campus would have allowed me to participate in many events, programs, and activities that occur on campus. I feel I am missing out on many events in my first year of the course simply because I live an hour and a half away from the HMC campus.
Thirdly, living far from campus incurs additional expenses, both financially and time-wise. If I were closer to campus, I could use those 3 extra hours daily for my studies or work an additional 15 hours part-time every week. The money saved could support someone in need with food or education back home in India.
Lastly, I believe that those who take the initiative are leaders in the making. Taking responsibility to advocate for students' causes will not only make me feel like a more responsible peer but also help project myself as a leader who can always contribute back to the community going forward.”
