“ I am a dedicated and engaged student passionate about making Sheridan a more supportive community. As a BBA Accounting student, I balance academic excellence with active involvement in student life.

As Vice President of the Pinoy Students' Organization, a club of Sheridan Student Union, I help organize cultural events that foster community. This role has strengthened my leadership, event planning, and advocacy skills while promoting inclusivity on campus. Beyond club leadership, I am a Peer Mentor specializing in First-Year Experience, guiding students through college life.

Seeing students gain confidence and find their place at Sheridan has been incredibly fulfilling. I care deeply about student well-being and engagement that is why, as a Board of Directors member, I will bring my firsthand experiences to advocate for initiatives that will give all Sheridan students a thoughtful and supportive environment.“

Financial Support: Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards

Write about one of the current student issues you selected above. share why advocating for this issue is important to you:

“Financial support through scholarships, bursaries, and awards is something I deeply care about because I have personally experienced how life-changing it can be. Paying for post-secondary education can be very challenging. A lot of students try to juggle multiple jobs or rely on debt to pay for their education. Coming from a single-parent household, I have seen my mother work tirelessly to support my education, sometimes worried about whether we could afford my schooling. A turning point came when I won the Scotiabank Scholarship with an essay I wrote on a business issue. This experience, allowed me to focus on my studies without having constant financial stress, evidencing the power of financial aid and inspiring me to help others access similar opportunities. Personally, after I won the scholarship, my friends were thrilled and inspired to apply themselves. When one of them won as well, it brought me so much joy to see how my experience encouraged others to pursue opportunities and succeed. From this experience, I think that many students struggle simply because they are unaware of available financial aid or assume they won’t qualify. Additionally, beyond financial aid, I believe students also need stronger financial literacy skills because many enter college without a clear understanding of budgeting and financial planning. This is why I advocate for greater awareness and accessibility of financial aid. Scholarships and bursaries do more than ease financial burdens. They highly encourage students to focus on learning, gain leadership experience, and make the most of college life. However, these resources are only useful if students know about them and can easily apply. Receiving financial support changed my life, and I want to ensure others have the same opportunity. By increasing awareness, simplifying the application process, and promoting financial literacy, I believe that I can make the most of my platform to help students focus on their education rather than financial stress. I believe that no student should have to choose between pursuing their dreams and financial survival.
